After 46 Years, Walnut Hill Farm Driving Competition Draws to a Close

Organization announces that 2017 was last year for iconic annual event in Pittsford, NY 


Pittsford, NY—In 1972, a small group of avid carriage driving enthusiasts led by Bill and Sue Remley met at Mendon Ponds Park with 14 vehicles for a fun and competitive pleasure drive. In the span of more than four decades, this event grew to become an internationally-recognized, annual five-day carriage driving event in August known as Walnut Hill Farm Driving Competition. Sharing the very sad news of the passing of Ed Young

A huge loss for us and for the carriage driving world, we sadly announce the passing of Ed Young, Walnut Hill Farm's long-time show manager for the Driving Competition. We share here a feature written about him when he returned as our show manager in 2016. RIP, Ed. You will be missed more than you would know.

Keeping the Old Days Alive at Walnut Hill Carriage Driving Competition in Pittsford - Spectrum News

There were some frantic moments at the start of the annual Walnut Hill Carriage Driving Competition in Pittsford after a horse got spooked on the course. Something spooked a horse in the competition ring Friday - the carriage tipped over tossing the two drivers. The horse kept going until it crashed into some flag poles. Moments later, the horse was calm and lead to its stable. The two drivers are OK.

"Horses are animals and sometimes they are unpredictable. On the very rare occasion that something like this happens, everyone is prepared. They jump into action and did exactly what needed to be done. Everything was controlled and everybody is good," said Amy Blum, said Walnut Hill spokesperson ...
